Location:
The project Railway Station (Stanica) started with the reconstruction and use of the space in the still operating railway station Zilina-Zariecie (free of charge contribution by The Railways of Slovak Republic). Stanica is funded and operated by NGO Truc sphérique.
The result is a new centre of progressive cultural activities connecting elements of public space – operating railway station – and elements of a multimedial cultural centre with creative, educational, social and presentation activities based on contemporary arts. The activities and operation of our NGO are linking: contemporary art laboratory (production), venue (presentation), workshops (education) and action (collective of activists).
The project of Stanica is freely linked to an international spectrum of cultural institutions created upon the platform of civic initiatives of young people and artists. (e.g. the centers associated with Trans Europe Halles, a network that Stanica is also a member of). Our project, however, transcends the other art factories in an original way. It is expected to preserve the previous purpose of the station - a waiting room and ticket sale for the local railway line from Zilina to Rajec.
Set up: The Stranger exhibition in Stanica Zilina-Zariecie was covered by Marek Adamov and Peter Snadik, they have translated all the texts to Slovak and curated exhibition in the gallery of Stanica Zilina-Zariecie. Having space limitation we couldn't adopt the same layout of the exhibition as in Amsterdam, though we have come with creative solution. We have divided the gallery in to six different areas according the stranger specification. There have been 4 screens for local, private and public areas accompanied with one computer for interactive area and one projection for the finalist. We have printed the translated texts and arranged them on the walls. We have use fatboys as sitting and focused the set up of exhibition on the age of expected audience, as you can see in the photo documentation.
