Initiator

The European Cultural Foundation (ECF) is the initiator, main financial contributor, fundraiser, coordinator and administrator of the StrangerFestival project.

The ECF is one of Europe’s leading cultural foundations, and it’s the only truly European one. We stimulate and promote cultural cooperation and strong cultural policies across broader Europe and its neighbouring regions. Along with our many partner organisations, we seek to give culture a stronger voice and presence on the European political stage.

Based in Amsterdam, with a small, dedicated staff team, and guided by an international Board and Advisory Council, we are supported financially by income from the Dutch lotteries and the sponsorship income we raise.We use our resources to give grants and run programmes in support of cultural cooperation and to assist the development of cultural policies that help integrate Europe and its diverse societies. Our advocacy on behalf of Europe’s cultural sector is built solidly on reflection and practice.

Our activities are many and varied. They include supporting cultural and artistic mobility, offering young people media platforms for their inspiring creativity and opinions, and through LabforCulture.org which is helping to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on European cultural cooperation.
